However, some fans have already called for her exit from the iconic BBC show.

Despite some loving Jodie Whittaker as the thirteenth Doctor Who, many also say they would have preferred fellow show newcomer Bradley Walsh in the role.

However, Jodie, 26, has teased she will stay on as the Doctor for "a long time" in a new interview.

Talking about her eventual departure from the show, Jodie said: "It seems like such a long time off, that sense of not doing it, suggesting an exit from the show won't come anytime soon.

The Yorkshire lass continued telling Bustle: "But the thing that was so brilliant about getting the part, and something I know because I know [David Tennant], is that once you're in the family, you're never out.

"I can be 80 years old and referred to as ‘the Doctor’ by somebody, and to know that you’re always welcome in that world is extraordinary."

Despite Jodie's passion for the role, many fans have taken a particular liking to Bradley Walsh's character Graham O'Brien.

One fan tweeted at the weekend: "Honestly prefer Bradley Walsh to the Doctor, can't he just be the Doctor?"

While another said: "Didn't expect Bradley Walsh to be the only solid actor in the main cast. These Hollyoaks kids are diabolically flat. Jodie is wildly inconsistent."

A third chimed in: "I'm a huge Doctor Who fan. Love Bradley Walsh, he's doing a great job. Can not decide if it's Jodie Whittaker I can not take to or the awful scripts."

Despite this, others are huge fans of Jodie, with many saying the actress is "nailing" her performances.

After her debut, one fan tweeted: "Yeah, loving the new incarnation of The Doctor. Jodie Whittaker is nailing this."

While another added: "Jodie's performance so far is bringing Doctor Who to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL."

Doctor Who returns on BBC One on Sunday at 6:55pm.
